We can’t speak for everyone else but we can tell you why elinorah.com is special and unique.

Elinorah.com is an online shop dedicated to selling items made and/or curated by women. Why? Glad you asked. Women are FULL of ideas and new life. Innovative, creative, visionary…we do it all! But while that is our greatest asset, it is also our biggest hurdle: WE. DO. IT. ALL. So often, we spend so much of our time doing for everyone else that we push that dream back another year. Then another five. Then it becomes a wish. A distant thought. Well we are aiming to stop that. From entrepreneurs who have taken that step to newbies who need a platform but haven’t been able to create their own, we want to feature ALL OF YOU. Accessories, clothing, technology, home goods. There is no limit. If you’ve got it, we want it. And we want you.

Aside from our mission, we are accessible and down to earth. This isn’t about me; you won’t see my face plastered everywhere. This is about WOMEN everywhere. Let’s grab our destinies by the ears and get on with it. Take charge! We would never make you feel like you aren’t important and we strive not to make any of our like-minded (because we don’t have competitors; we are in this together) sisters feel that way either.

For many, wearing headwraps isn’t just a fashion statement – it’s a lifestyle. It is also a cultural tie for many African and African-American women. During periods of slavery in the U.S., many slaves wore headwraps (also known as head ties) as a way of honoring their homeland. You see, headwraps in Africa were worn to signify community (pbs.org). While slave masters viewed them as a symbol of subordination, the slaves had a way to bring themselves together without the masters truly understanding.

In today’s society, I believe they are worn as a huge embrace to our history as black women. This does not make them exclusive to only black women, but it is important to note their significance to the black female community. This spirit of boldness is what elinorah.com embodies in our tagline “empowered style.” Regardless of what others have told us about who we are or what we represent, we will continue to shine and come together in solidarity. Empowered. In Style.

It’s launch time and we are so thrilled to be up and running. Welcome to elinorah.com, an online boutique made by and for women. We only feature items made by or curated by women in an effort to provide a safe space where women feel empowered, inside and out. Our tagline, “empowered style” evokes that utilizing fashion and beauty can be a way to express empowerment, but also that being empowered is a lifestyle.

This site was started by Krystine Green, corporate merchandising professional and image consultant. In her quest for a steady work/life balance (she’s mom to two littles who inspired the shop name!), she quickly began to realize that there are plenty of women out there aiming for the same thing. These are women who have so much to offer and need the right platform to do so. We are in this business for women, by women.
