June 19th marks a special day in Black history.

June 19, 1865 marks the day the last of the enslaved learned they were free. If you recall, the Emancipation Proclamation was effective January 1, 1863. So why did it take so long for all the enslaved to know they were free? Well, their slave masters kept the information from them. That’s it! This is why we celebrate.
